The AOI Torrance and Irvine campuses will both be closed Monday, May 30, 2011 for Memorial Day. The students, teachers and staff will be enjoying a 3-day weekend, so if you need anything, please call or stop by on Tuesday.
After the short Memorial Day break, it will be back to the grindstone, though, because the week of May 31 begins finals week. This means our spring quarter is quickly coming to a close. Wow, that flew by quickly. Well, you know what they say….time flies when you’re having fun.
Have a wonderful long weekend everyone!

Yesterday, April 7th 2011, AOI held a Charity Garage Sale in an effort to raise money for Earthquake and Tsunami victims of Japan. Many students donated used items throughout the past week to be displayed. We sold Pizza slices for charity as well.
Many people showed up to rummage around a classroom with isles of goods lined up on tables that are usually occupied by students. There was a sense of unity in the event as many Japanese students showed up to show support for their friends, families, and fellow Japanese people in Japan. We are excessively proud of the success of the garage sale as all proceeds go directly to the cities hit hardest by the disaster. We plan on having another Charity Garage Sale sometime in the future, we will keep you posted.
Sincerely,
Sara
Local Cafes and Yummy Eats.

Our very own University Town Center which houses AOI offices and classrooms is home to delicious cafes and restaurants. Let’s start with the cafes that are walking distance from your classroom! If you’re craving a variety of hot or cold teas and fruity drinks (non-alcoholic!) then Cha For Tea is the place to be. For cravings of customizable frozen yogurt with a variety of toppings on a hot day then head over to Yogurtland! When you want to shop for healthy and delicious groceries then we have a Trader Joe’s right here at the University Town Center. And if all you want is a classic cup of freshly brewed coffee, or maybe a Caramel Caffe Latte with whipped cream and a cookie, then there is a Peet’s Coffee right here!
Our location is ideal for students who want to learn English and have plenty of convenient options for places to hang out with friends and meet local residents. There is even a movie theater and a fitness gym! So much convenience in one place, there must be something wrong with this place, right? Well the only flaw is that you won’t ever want to leave! 🙂 So if you’re not a registered student, come into our office for more information! or call us at (949)856-1700.
We hope to see you soon!
Sincerely,
Sara
If you haven’t had the chance to view this month’s AOI Monthly Newsletter then here it is. The January Newsletter is all about a year in review; we looked back at the AOI end of the year parties. It is full of pictures from the Halloween party when we had a costume contest, pumpkin carving contest and loads of fun! Plus there are pictures from the Holiday Party we had before concluding the quarter. Check it out to see the fun events going on at AOI!
Click here for the January Newsletter, don’t worry it’s only a PDF. 🙂

It’s December now and the air is getting chilly. Winter makes me want to sit by the fire and drink hot chocolate. AOI goes on break on the 14th of December. Good luck on your final week of school and please enjoy yourselves over winter break! School will be back in session January 5th of 2011. 🙂 Remember to mark your calendars and register early for your classes.

Sara

Hope you all are having a good first couple weeks of the quarter! This month will have a fun field trip to the Pumpkin Patch. Two weeks from now on the 22nd of October we will go look at all the pumpkins on display! Traditionally people buy pumpkins and carve funny or scary faces on them. The pumpkins are hollowed out and a candle is placed inside so it would glow orange at night. These are called Jack-O-Lanterns.

Another Halloween custom regarding pumpkins is cooking the seeds in different seasonings, sweet or savory, then munching on them as a snack. Oven-bake them or saute them in a frying pan and they will make a delicious bite to eat. It makes a good appetizer for any Halloween party and you can look up many recipes online!

Friday the 29th of October AOI College of Languages is throwing a Faculty and Student Halloween Party!! The staff will be dressed up in Halloween Costumes! You don’t want to miss it! Find a funky costume and come party at AOI with your teachers and friends.
Sincerely,
Sara
